Aza
est le nom d'un nouveau groupe musical créé à Santa Cruz (Californie). Il
est formé de deux chanteurs Fattah Abboo et Mohamed Aoualou, originaires du
Maroc, et de musiciens américains, Jason Paquin (banjo, guitare), Joel Ford
(clarinette, saxophones), Andy Zenczak (basse électrique) et Alex Work
(percussions). Par cette association, Aza crée un style unique fait de
mélodies enlevantes et issu de la rencontre d’instruments traditionnels et
modernes. Leur premier album, Marikan (Amérique) (2003), est un
voyage musical, teinté d'influences occidentales modernes, à travers la
